I give a rat's ass

Ed, this is for L.A. Parker. I grew up in Chambersburg. I loved the city when I was growing up as a boy and I do give a rat’s ass. I am a white male in my mid-60s and it disgusts me what’s going on. It is Santiago and Mayor Palmer who don’t give a rat’s ass about Trenton. All they care about are their perks and their pensions. We need some black leaders who can tell the black people to raise their children, not just have them. It breaks my heart to see what’s happened to our wonderful city. I grew up in the best environment possible in the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s. Look what’s happened to our town. I agree with your past article a couple of weeks ago, but not this latest article.
Trenton Native
L.A. cares deeply about this city, too, even if you don’t see eye to eye.—Ed. Note

Dear Native, Grow Up. Don't you see by now that neither Palmer or Santiago could care less about what goes on in the city. In some ways Palmer isn't quite as bad as Santiago, but bad enough on his own. Palmer at least occasionally makes some sort of half-hearted comment that either continues to confuse or absolutely has nothing to do with the question at hand.
However, regarding the black leaders telling the black people how to raise their kids, let's be truthful. Reality is often earmarked as the obvious or what we choose or want to believe. Trenton has many problems. Problems that stem from many different areas and levels in the city. In many ways, blacks often take the blame for many of the same ills of any major city and Trenton certainly has it's share. But, lets be real, black kids are not the only problem that exists in the city. For instance, who are the people who come into the city every night to either buy sex or drugs, yes, your right, white people. Who are the people selling pornography in the local restaurants and pizza shops along Hamilton ave, right again, white people. Who is responsible for keeping the streets clean, safe and viable for every citizen, yes, Palmer's administration. Not to say that blacks don't do their share of anything deemed to be wrong with the city, but let's be fair. Many of the problems that exist in the city are do to lack of concern or responsible minority leadership in the city. Palmer is black, the majority of city council is black. The majority of department heads in Palmer's administration are blacks appointed by Palmer. Yet, the streets are filthy, crime is rampant and city services are a joke. Residents in many parts of the city want the same things that home owners in any other area of the state want. These people work hard and contribute throughout their community and state. Yet, they have no help, recourse or voice when it comes to preserving their communities or securing their neighborhoods. Why you ask, because the adminstrative staff in the city, find it easier to blame the blacks, while the Mayor and his appointees drop the ball. Nothing happens in this town that hasn't been allowed to happen, (crime, filth, abandoned buildings, drugs, prostitution, etc. It's just easier to point the finger at one group of people instead of putting the blame where it belongs.

Let's get a survey together and find out how many times each ward representative has conducted street visits in their respective areas. Let's also find out how many of the reps have visited homes and actually spoken with their constituents to find out what their concerns were in the neighborhood. In addition, lets get on the absentee landlords, for allowing their investment properties to decay while continuing to charge astronomical rents. If the council representatives were keeping their pre-election promises and, paying closer attention to their wards, many of the everyday street problems would cease to exist. There would be no drug trafficking in front of homes. No dirt on the streets, and police presence would be known. (thereby not allowing the drug dealers to get comfortable dealing in front of homes. These problems are allowed to exist and we need to place the blame where it belongs. CITY HALL.

The Palmer administration has allowed this city to go to pot. City council is no better. They should all be investigated and held accountable for allowing this city to become what it is today.
They have the resources, manpower, and law enforcement on their side.
No one should have to live like this. It's time to stop the speeches and show some real concern about the people who live here.

There is so much corruption in City Hall, City Council and the School Board that the entire city is fed up and looking forward to mass arrests.

I agree whole heartedly.

Truthfully speaking has the best idea I've heard yet. Let's get the council members on the streets in their wards. Let them see first hand how we are forced to live. The need to see the horror not just what their told. If they can't or aren't willing to at least make an attempt to invest in this frame of mind, then truthfully is TOTALLY CORRECT.

Hey Ed. When will you put Truthfully's post on the front page. It' right on the money. It would be interesting to see how many council members would make up excuses to avoid the entire process. Bet you wouldn't see one of them out there.
