Jury Duty After Death?

Hi, Ed, I am calling in response to the woman who talked about jury duty. When my husband was in his 70s he was called for jury duty but due to medical problems he was excused. He passed away at 85 years old. Recently he received a notice to appear for jury duty, a petit jury. I called to let them know he had passed away. Then I received a card in the mail saying “failure to respond to this notice may result in a summons to appear in superior court.” I hope they get their act together. For one thing, why would they even call a man of age 85? I can’t believe they are messing up this way when there are so many young people who could serve.

Some of these juries could really use the wisdom of an elderly man. But not a dead one.—Ed. Note
