Fatherhood

Ed, about the article on nominating your Platinum Dad in the paper on the 19th. I find it just terrible that the criteria for nomination include “may or may not be residing with his child, may or not be married” and the last one, “candidates may not be incarcerated or have outstanding criminal warrants.” It is a shame that in our society those have to be put in as qualifications for a Platinum Dad.
Going Platinum
To clarify: The rules stipulating no outstanding warrants or incarceration are simply prerequisites for applying to be a Platinum Dad, not qualifications. The winners are dads who go above and beyond and are amazing fathers.— Ed. Note

Any man who chooses to take responsibility for their child, in these days and times is an outstanding father. With the current economic situation and loss of jobs as well as housing, medical coverage and insurance, many men are losing everything they've worked all their lives for. However, if a man sticks it out and continues to keep his family together, while raising healthy and respectful children, who don't rely on drugs, gangs or outside influences to determine their life paths, that man is an amazing father. Far too many times we as a society forget these men who are often overlooked because they don't support their responsibilities on camera or with flowery speeches, Yet these are the men who should receive all of our respect and thankful recognition for being the amazing father they are.
