25 year drought

My goodness, wasn't that an exciting down to the wire NBA championship Game 6. What did the Celtics win by, 80 points? How can a team be as bad as the Celtics have been over the past decade or two, then win an NBA championship so easily? It really mystifies me that a city like Boston can make winning championships look so easy. The Celtics won this year, and the Red Sox have won twice in the last three or four years. And I can't even calculate how many championships the Patriots have won in the last decade.
And here we are in Philadelphia. A city that hasn't won a major sport championship in 25 years. The Phillies have one just one championnship (1980) in over 100 years, the Sixers have won just two (1967 AND 1983), and the Flyers won just two (1974 and 1975). The Eagles haven't won since 1960. I was about 1 1/2 years old at the time so I can't really recall much abnout that one. Of course, there are a whole generation of young fans who have never seen a championship parade march down Broad Street.
Why is is so hard for Philadelphia. We've gotten close several times since the Sixers won in 1983, but we can never get the brass ring. If my memory serves me right, Philly teams have made it to the championship series seven times (Phillies, 83' and 93); Sixers (2001); Eagles (2005?); and the Flyers (85', 87', 97') We lost all seven of those series.
I'm don't know if any of you remember this, but I remember a guy that went to the Eagles in the early 1980's and told them that he could deliver them a championship through some kind of magical powers he had. OF course, a modest fee would have to be charged for the service. I'm not joking, this guy really approached the Eagles with this idea. When they told him to take a hike, he put a curse on all Philadelphia teams that they would never win a championship again. People just laughed at him then. Nahhh! That really couldn't have anything to do with this, could it?
