Be our eyes and ears in Oley

Berks-Mont Newspapers is on a mission—a mission to find community columnists.

Our local quarterly newspaper, The Oley Valley Sentinel, has already been mailed out to local residents with a preview of this year’s Oley Fire Company Peach and Ice Cream Festival August 9 (See photo from the 2007 festival above.)

And we’re hoping to recruit a new stable of local community writers to be a part of our next issue.

Berks-Mont Newspapers is looking for five committed columnists from the sentinel’s coverage area to create quarterly columns, about 800 words each, for the communities of Oley, Pike, Ruscombmanor and Alsace Townships and the Oley Valley School District.

Ideal candidates will be residents of each community and well connected with local residents. We’ll look to you to provide important community news and events and to be ambassadors for our newspaper.

Other opportunities for freelancing may also arise. If interested submit your name, contact information, resume, and writing or photography samples to shessinger (at) berksmontnews (dot) com.

It doesn't pay nothing, idiot! Journalists who love to report local news know that it's a labur of love. I'll do it for free so who do I speak two?

Freelance writers are, in fact, paid. For details, use the e-mail address in the above post.

Wow! That's terrific! I figured that since the paper was free, then the writing was free. What do they pay on average?

The Boyertown Times should wake up and take a good look at the lives they destroy by misprinting POLICE REPORTS and post them on the blogs. Last weeks Police Log was copied from the Reading State Polices Report, BUT, it was misprinted and the victims were written in the paper as the suspects. I know the family very well and they are having a hard time explaining to employers and co-workers that it was a misprint. The state police report was verified that they are the victims and not the suspects. BUT, That does not make it easier for them. People actually are asking them if they were involved in insurance fraud. They wrote a "For the Record" on the front page of the website, but ONLY after I sent an email in the morning that it should have been on the front page of the website by now apologizing to the Moose's. The times is well known for making mistakes, but this is horrifying. Thank God the Police did not try and pick them up. JoAnne called the State Police immediately and cleared up the mistake, which was just on the part of the paper.
Get your information CORRECT before Printing!!!!!!!!!
