Peace march scheduled for Saturday
The second annual "Lock Arms for Christ" peace march will take place Saturday morning along Lincoln Highway. From my story in Friday's paper:
Saturday morning’s peace rally in the city will take the form of an old-fashioned funeral march with a hearse leading the procession along East Lincoln Highway trailed by a crowd of mourners on foot.Despite its sober appearances, the Rev. Francine V. Walker-Selby, one of the organizers of the event, insists there is cause for celebration — it’s been more than a year since the last murder in Coatesville.
That statistic is the answer to the prayers of Walker-Selby and other organizers of the second annual Lock Arms for Christ march, Bernadette J. Campbell and Peggy Vaughn Bryant. They are all part of a group called Virtuous Sisters for Christ.
“We pray all the time for the city that God will continue to do what he has already done,” Walker-Selby said. “And that is that no more brothers will be killed in the city.”
The last homicide victim in Coatesville was Jonas “Sonny” Suber, who was killed inside his home in October 2006.

Yeah, it's been more than a year since Coatesville had a murder but there have been a LOT of gun shots and a lot of attempted murders. Anyway I am glad that some folks are still going to celebrate it, although I don't agree with the funeral car part.
It seems to me that the murders taking place in Coatesville is a dominoe effect. Someone gets killed and then someone else wants to get revenge and so on and so on. I also seems to me that all of these murders started with one person. The first one should have taught you to stop and say was it justified.
I don't live in Coatesville anymore, but I do remember going to a barber shop and having my hair cut by one of the Suber boys. I was so proud that these guys had their own business and they did a good job on my hair. Before I could go back, I heard that one of them was shot in the shoulder. He would have had a permanent customer in me. I wonder if he was the one who got killed, because I didn't even remember his name. There also was a lot of traffic, but every young man who came into the shop was very respectful to me. It seemed that they were all friends. Was my life in danger? Apparently not because I walked out of there and I sure looked good with my cut, walking back to 4th Avenue proud.
This is reality Coatesville residents. Stop the killing and as I said before, there is freedom of speech. You should be able to say what you want and not live in danger of being retaliated against.

I wish I could be there to march with you all.
Keep C'ville safe, because you have to live there.
