'No money in the hole' ~ a brief recap of Oct. 12 meeting ~

There was an action item on the Oct. 12 City Council agenda regarding the authorization to remove money from the city's trust fund again. But only four of the seven council members at the meeting, so Councilman Ed Simpson asked that the item be postponed.

City Manager Harry Walker explained that the money from the trust fund would sustain the city through early next year. He said revenues will significantly increase in February.

Councilwoman Patsy Ray said that the budget has been an issue since she has been on council.

"We came into this year with no money in the hole," said Ray. "And we will go out this year with no money in the hole."

Why not borrow the money from the trust fund with a legal obligation to pay it back and an established payment plan that ends in March when, according to Mr. Walker, the funds will be available.

How about we dont touch the fund until we get a qualified person into Walkers position?

Agreed - I can't believe a member of Council said that during session. I mean that speaks volumes of how much they simply don't understand what they're doing.

glad to see this blog up again....disappointed in the contents of the brief recap of the meeting.

seems you only want the same buzz words...walker and ray ....trying to feed the discontentment. cover the story let us pick our own buzz words.

usually i disagree with a lot walker not this time...and the no money in the hold, did you attempt to talk to ray about her statement, was that statement out of line etc.

every round table new entry is about council' how about something else.

what's up with all the girl fights, going on in coatesville and nothing happening about them.

i'm talking many girl fights, not just that one. i just don't want someone to go to jail for murder.

these girls are getting more violent, maybe a slap on the wrist by the law will let them know they better change

But how can we let the police know we are serious about this? They seem to think everything is a joke. They take a half hour to respond, and by that time, no one is around!

This violence has got to END.
Someone was talkin about a zero tolerance police regarding violence on the posts some time ago. Maybe it is a good idea.

Yesterday I was in town and watched a rather large officer sit in his police vehicle at the corner of second and main. Windows rolled up. Two vehicles sat at the light near the wig shop with the most horrible noise (excuse me...music) blaring. I don't think the officer even noticed. This was somewhere around noon.

As for the girl fights, build a bigger prison/juvenile facility. More jobs for those that want to work. Make community service be something other than washing the windows at the CYWA. I think picking up trash would be a start. Lots of weeds need cutting. Boxing up those files in city hall. Painting over crap they write on other folks buildings.

What happened to the cameras? Were they not supposed to catch some of this nonsense?

Or just use on little camera on channel 66 for a city council meeting.

I see nothing has changed in the city. I lived in Coatesville many years ago, call the police and they would take their good old time about getting there, same thing I guess.

I was hoping Danielle would do a better job than Jen Miller. I think she has been doing one so far. Jen Miller really put her own spin on things, she became the voice of the DLN.

Several people have been laid off, no one seems to care.

To the last poster. I don't think it's that 'no one cares' believe me we all no someone who has been laid off with the economy the way it is. However you have to realize this happens everyday. I don't wish it on anyone but are you telling me we don't have waste in City Hall? We couldn't combine jobs/outsource to save the citizens money? I mean how do you expect to lower taxes (2.5 percent of every pay check) if you aren't efficient. Now if you are saying people are being laid off that shouldn't (politics) then I totally understand. For example: how much do you want to be that press relations person we pay $48,000 a year to won't be laid off. I'll take that bet any day.

I would love to take your bet anyday. The public relations was on the radio wche1520 on Wednesday morning and announced she was among the people laid off. I think you should do your homework before you place anymore bets in the future sine this was a public announcement for all to hear

Coatesville is overlooking the biggest money making opportunity around. The Codes department. Stop being soft of people and start getting them citations when their property is in violation!

As long as people think they can get away with something, they will. Very few peopple take pride in their homes and properties, especially section 8 recipients. Make them accountable for minor upkeep such as trash, graffiti, and other small violations. MAKE THEM PAY, or KICK THEM OUT!

It is hard to write citations when you have them being withdrawn behind the officers back.
