DA wants bail raised for accused dog killer, drug dealer

The DA's office is expected to ask Common Pleas Judge William Mahon to raise the bail for Laquanta Chapman in court Thursday. Chapman, of Coatesville, faces guns, drugs and animal cruelty charges after police raided his home last month. The startling information surrounding the case is his alleged admission to cutting a dog up with a chain saw after police found a mutilated dog in a trash bag in Chapman's home.

A Tredyffrin district judge set Chapman's bail for $5,000 at the on-call weekend arraignment. Then when the case was forwarded to Magisterial District Judge Robert Davis in Coatesville, Davis increased his bail to $100,000. The DA's office is expected to ask for a higher bail tomorrow after learning more about Chapman's criminal history.

The bail for Bryan Byrd, who was arrested the same day, is expected to stay at $100,000.

See Friday's DLN for more details.
