Yes, I saw that. And with all of the talk about how well the surge went, NPR decided to interview people in the area of Iraq controlled by Sadr, and they were saying that it was Sadr who is responsible for the calm. They also said they would take up arms again to get the Americans out. I still say that when all is said and done, we will have acomplished the goal of removing a secular government and replaced it with Shiite based government. And at what cost?
You're talking to an agnostic here. Unfortunatly, (maybe I'm reading more into this than I should), I think many on the right have decided to use the flag as a symbol of support for the war. Unfortunate if thats the case.
I'd prefer to see the flag used as a symbol of hope, not fear and agression.
Well, you gave me laugh with that one. Read the Addie thing this morning. I don't agree with her, on the other hand, would you agree with my statement? "I'd prefer to see the flag used as a symbol of hope, not fear and agression."
The Left hates anything that so much as smells like pro-America patriotism. Flag pins matter very much for the reason one elects to not wear one when everyone else is wearing them.
Why anyone would vote such America-haters any power here at all is anyone’s guess.
Oh stop, G. You're as down on the Hate America First Libs as I am. Obama's refusal to wear a flag pin was just a wink to that wing of the LibDem base. Until he got called on it and started wearing it for fear of alienating more patriotic folks who he needs to win in November. In this way a silly pin matters very much. If it didn't, B. Hussein Obama wouldn't have started wearing it. There is just as much symbolism in not wearing it as there is in wearing it. And O well knows this.

Thanks Gil. That was very deep and informative. About as useful as a flag lapel pin.
Bob,
You got something against flag pins?
Gil
Just reminds me of that old John Prine tune "Your flag decal won't get you into heaven any more"
Hey, where'd everyone go?

Bob,
Doesn't keep you out, does it?

Yes, well. Maybe you agree with Addie. See above.

I always see the flag as a symbol, not only of hope, but of opportunity and freedom.
If I were advising lefties politically, I tell them wear flag pins wherever you go.
Unfortunately, too many "progressives" see the flag as a symbol of oppression and wickedness.
That's how Obama's buddy Bill Ayers sees it. And that's why he thinks it's cool to stomp all over it.
Audacious. But not very hopeful.

GROAN!
I'm with you Bob.
BTW, on the cover of Newsweek both Obama and Biden have the flag lapel pins firmly in place.
Smart, nice move.
