The Phillies are headed back to the NLCS, off to Hollywood

I've watched a lot of baseball in 32 years. I'm not sure I've ever seen one quite like that up close and in person.

The Phillies gave the game away and then they stared down their last out and didn't like what they saw. So they took it back.

You can read more about the game in tomorrow's paper, or online at delcotimes.com

But here are some photos, courtesy of the AP, and some quotes, courtesy of yours truly.

Cliff Lee, on Ryan Howard's game-tying, ninth-inning hit:
“He came down to the end of the bench and said, ‘Get me to the plate, boys.' I don’t even know how to explain it to you. That was the biggest hit, Howard hitting that ball like that… that was one of the most clutch hits I’ve ever seen.”

Ryan Madson, on the offense's eruption in the ninth: “He wanted to hit in that moment. That’s what type of team we got. They want that to happen, they want that situation to come up and they’re not afraid of it.”

Ryan Howard, on what just might have been the biggest hit of his career:
“I think a lot of people want to be in that situation, with the game on the line, two outs. I just told myself to be as relaxed and calm as you possibly can, just go up there and try to get a good pitch to hit and don’t miss it.”

Jayson Werth
, who followed Howard's two-run double with a go-ahead RBI single: “To me, every game we play is like the biggest games of our lives… you try to stay in the moment. Right now this is one of the biggest games I’ve ever played in. Unbelievable win.”

Brad Lidge, who closed out the final two games of the NLDS with saves in one-run games, on Carlos Ruiz's visit to the mound before the final pitch: “He said, ‘Give me your good one.' That’s all he said.”
