Jambo 2009

Every two years, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from Montgomery and Delaware Counties and Philadelphia gather at Green Lane Park for a Jamboree, sort of a miniature version of the national event.

Some 3,000 Scouts, including my own son, camped out in and around the park from Friday to Sunday morning and spent Saturday participating in all sorts of Scout-ish activities. The Cradle of Liberty Council, which sponsored the event, put on quite a show with everything from activites such as archery and rock wall climbing to scuba classes (they brought their own pool) and science experiments. There was a live stage, army vehicles, a fly-over of a very large military aircraft, paddle boats, hot air balloons, a evening concert by the Army jazz and rock band from Fort Dix and fireworks.
And fishing.

If there was a free minute, the fishing rods were out. Dozens of kids lined Deep Creek Lake doing their best to pull out the sunnies whose sole purpose in life seems to be caught and thrown back. I'm told there's bass and trout out there somewhere, too.
Of course it rained Friday night. Then it rained Saturday night. It rained Sunday morning while the tents and canopies were coming down.

But a Scout is always Prepared.
Rain? No worries. Dad'll buy some more rain gear.
