A Landlord's Take

Ed, I have been a landlord in inner city Trenton for more than 25 years. As to the person who called in to object to Bill A1628, which would allow the installation of water meters in each apartment, I have to say I disagree. In my opinion it is a good idea. That way we can bill people for what they use. You don’t understand that many tenants never call us about a leaky toilet or a leaky faucet. I once received a $700 bill for one quarter because nobody notified us of an ongoing problem. Tenants don’t want to spend their money, but they should know they are wasting valuable resources at a time when out environment is suffering with global warming and wasted resources of all kinds. I support Assembly Bill A1628.
Rent is Due
I didn’t realize this bill was about global warming. Anyway, if you’re blaming tenants for not reporting leaks and running toilets, I hope you’re prepared to respond promptly when they do report such things.—Ed. Note
