Gunderson - 2 Assists in All-Star Game
T-Devils rookie defenseman Ryan Gunderson picked up two assists in the ECHL All-Star game last night. The American Conference; however, fell to the National Conference in a shoot out, 10-7.
Gunderson joined Mathieu Melanson (Florida), Brett Hemingway (Reading), Jon D'Aversa (Wheeling) and Tomas Kudelka (Elmira) as one of five American Conference players who registered multi-point games.
The American Conference managed to go up 1-0, but then the National Conference proved its dominance and was on top by a score of 7-2 at one point, before Gunderson assisted on a goal by Melanson with 45 seconds left in the second to cut the lead to 7-3.
For the game, Gunderson was minus-two rating, but in an All-Star game, I don't think anyone is too concerned over defensive effort. The game is meant to showcase the great talent in this league and put on a show for the fans. Nobody wants to see a 2-1 All-Star game.
I was able to catch most of the game on NHL Network, which is a fantastic channel, by the way. If you haven't checked it out, I recommend doing so. Aside from showing live games, the network produces great hour-long footage of great playoff series such as Red Wings/Avalanche (97) and Devils/Flyers (2000). Their programming of "NHL on the Fly" is also good, recapping each night's action on the frozen pond.

It seemed like a very energetic crowd out in Stockholm, Calif. last night, drawing just about 7,500 fans. They got to see a ton of goal scoring, 17 of them, and got to see their "home" team win. The 10 goals from the National Conference is the most since the Canada All-Stars set the record with 11 goals on Jan. 20, 1998 at Lafayette, La. and it ties the record for second-most goals set by the North All-Stars on Jan. 23, 1996 at Tallahassee, Fla.
Victoria's Ash Goldie set an ECHL record recoring six points with three goals and three assists. He broke Andy MacIntyre's record when he recorded five points for the Canada All-Stars, scoring four goals and an assist on Jan. 20, 1998 at Lafayette, La.
The 17 goals by both teams is the most scored since 1998 when the teams combined for 18 goals and ties the record for second-most goals set by the teams in 1996. The two teams combined for four goals in the third period, tying the record for third-most goals by both teams in a period.

Agree, NHL Network is fantastic
I don't think most people even know it exists! It's on some obscure channel number, at least on my cable provider, but the programming is good.
The only knock I have on it is the studio guys. They seem to trip over their words a lot when talking into the camera. And when Chris Therien is on, I'd rather be watching paint dry.
I'm in Monmouth County and its channel 276 on Comcast.
I'd say the coverage is simple: a few minutes of highlights from each game, a brief analysis at the end. No lame ESPN style jokes, no talking over the highlights.
Here is a question for you. Are we watching legit prospects this year? In recent years, the big club's farm system has been a little dry.
It's on channel 276 on Comcast locally. It's part of the package with the NFL network. I love the classic games.
Wonder if Gunderson will remain a forward with Pepperall likely done for the year.
