Frozen assets thawing?

City Manager Harry Walker says the city's federal weed and seed grants are available. The feds say, nope, you can't have them yet.

UPDATE: Kristin Geiger, spokeswoman for the city of Coatesville, contacted me Wednesday afternoon to confirm that City Manager Harry Walker had been contacted by e-mail regarding the city's Weed and Seed money.

"However, we are still awaitng official notice from the Department of Justice," Geiger said. She added the city has resolved the issues raised in the audit and "we are hoping to hear from the Department of Justice in the very near future.”

Coatesville will be very lucky if they ever see that federal money. Especially after they wasted away the last batch that they got. How could you pay the same bill twice?? AND the company that they paid twice didn't say anything either!! Sounds like they are both confused or crooked! Would you be willing to give someone some more money after the last money that you gave them got wasted? I know for sure I wouldn't.

This city's cash management policies are horrible! It takes the waste department something like 8 to 12 weeks to deposit a check - that's 8 to 12 weeks where that money could be earning interest (assuming of course that the city uses an interest bearing account in the first place).

I for one am glad the feds are holding up the funds - clearly "mom and dad" don't know how to spend wisely in the first place.

I agree, ever since we moved to coatesville in 2005 EVERY check we give to the city take 8-12 weeks (if not more) to be cashed. Who is holding this money and why? Even if you go to the bank once a week it should not take this long. This also begs the question of the security of my identity and bank information when my personal information is held by the City this long.

To February 27, 2008 4:26 PM; Crooked is the answer.

To the rest they do not know what they are doing, and they are not worried since there is no short fall of funds, it was made up to rid them of the people who would not join in there corruption.
