WHO SHOULD BE NAMED ALL-DELCO?

It's about the time again to start up that infectious All-Delco talk.

And during every high-school season, I implore the readers of this blog to submit their nominations for All-Delco honors. This time, it's for boys soccer.

Of course, not every player can be named All-Delco. So there are Second and Honorable Mention teams, as well.

OK, so here's what you should know about the process:
1. Nomination. You can comment on this blog (kindly, and while paying respect to other players) or send me an e-mail at cvito@delcotimes.com.

2. Outside sources. I don't do this alone, folks. I communicate with county coaches to gauge how they view particular players' ability. And reader input is valuable, too.

3. Intangibles. Goals and shutouts are important, but they're not always direct indicators of a player's ability. For example, a high goal scorer might be the result of playing in a weak league, or in terms of keepers, the defense in front of him might stop a ton of shots before they get to the box. So tell me what makes a player a worthwhile candidate.

For more, check out the feedback I got during the boys basketball season.

Dante Pergolese- Haverford

Kid has run for over 1300 yards so far this year and alot of TDs (not sure of an exact number), and has been one of the few bright spots on a Fords team that still hasn't gotten over their tough overtime loss to a good penncrest team. Speaking of Penncrest, something is wrong if Ricky Bailey is not all Delco. That kid is just a great reciever and can seen almost impossible to cover at times...just ask Ridley and Haverford.

Tim Brown- Upper Darby

Switched positions on both Offense and Defense this year and is still getting it done. At 6'3 210lbs he went from TE to WR if they switched to the spread earlier he would be a 1000 yd Reciever.

Chris Green- Upper Darby

Just a great all around Running back and a sensational cornerback. He should be on there for either side.

Dante Pergolese - Haverford

Incredible athlete and all around great kid! He has been the County's leading rushing for eight weeks and is just shy of breaking the Haverford High School's rushing record that has not been surpassed in some 18-20 years! Dante plays hard whether his team is winning or losing and always gives it his all. He has brought alot of life to the Haverford games...love to see him get recognized for his efforts. Look forward to seeing his younger brother, Andre, continue in this same path.
