Devils Split with Elmira Jackals

The T-Devils took part in a two-game exhibition series with the Elmira Jackals and came away with a split this past weekend.

Game 1: Devils 2, Jackals 1
Game 2: Jackals 7, Devils 3

The Devils were successful in their first game of exhibition play, taking a 2-1 victory over the Elmira Jackals.

Devils' forward Brad Mills took advantage of a Chaz Johnson boarding call late in the third, and scored the game-winner with 2:12 remaining in regulation. Mills took a pass from Tony Zancanaro with a head of steam skating in the offensive zone and avoided a poke check from Jackals goalie Robert Gherson and burried it top shelf to give the Devils their first lead of the game, and hold on for the victory.

Heading into training camp, the team consisted of plenty of rookies on the blue line, three of its six players, but never showed signs of inexperience. The team killed off 10 out of 10 penalty kills.

On the opposite end, the team scored twice on the power play in 11 chances, including a 5-on-3 tally from Stephen Wood one-time blast from the pointto open the scoring for Trenton.

Devils' netminder Dave Caruso was extremely busy in net, having to make 36 saves to get the win.

In game two, the Devils took the lead briefly in the first period when Trevor Kell tipped in a Matt Cohen blast from the point just over four minutes in. However, the Jackals evened things up on a Kevin Jarman shot 1:13 after the Devils tally.

Jay Pemberton tied the score in the second period at 2-2, however, let up a goal 30 seconds later as the Jackals put together a three-goal rally in the middle frame to blow the game open.

Devils forward Eric Castonguay scored his first goal of the preseason on the power play at 15:36 of the third period.
