Walker renewed, Matthews amended
At Tuesday night's City Council meeting, members approved changes to Police Chief William Matthews' contract that allows him an additional year to complete his Act 120 certification.
A majority of councilmembers also voted in favor of renewing City Manager Harry Walker's contract for three more years.
Walker said he looked forward to playing a leadership role in Coatesville's rebirth, but he was not eager to spend another three years refereeing City Council's infighting.
He later said, for the record, he did not support renewing the city manager's agreement with the city.

“This has been an interesting trip,” Walker said about his past two years in Coatesville. “I came in here thinking I was going to save Coatesville from gross fiscal mismanagement. I didn’t think I was getting into a gunfight at the OK Corral.”Councilman Ed Simpson cast "no" votes against amending Matthews' contract and extending Walker's term. Martin Eggleston voted against the Matthews resolution and abstained from voting on Walker's contract.
He later said, for the record, he did not support renewing the city manager's agreement with the city.

Looks like Coatesville will stay a dump since Walker and crew got renewed for another 3 years. What a shame.
We need four good people to run in the next election, is anyone interested in doing this? I sure am thinking of running. We need to turn this ship around and get it heading in the right direction again and we need a new captain at the helm to direct it.
Marty and Ed seem to have it together and Coatesville's future in mind. Don't know if i can say that for the rest of them
to the previous poster, you can't run for council as 'anonymous'...
What have they done in the past 2 years?.... I couldn't think of anything either. Case, and point. Good luck
'What have they done in the past 2 years?.... I couldn't think of anything either. Case, and point.'
Huh?
You may not agree with the current administration, but they have done things since coming into office. Inarguably, the tenor of the city and its administration has changed. Most notably they've changed the emphasis of the police force to 'community policing'. And they've changed out to a greater or lesser degree the people staffing city hall. And they've begun city council meetings with prayers. and so on.
for economic development, not much has been accomplished visibly and some folks, I hear, blame the current administration for the state of the chetty development. Whether that last part is true, I don't have a clue.
But it's time that folks realize that Coatesville was a hard sell in the better times of a few years ago. In the currently prevailing economic conditions, economic development is going to be close to a miracle.
At some point a hotel will be built on the bypass somewhere near rt 82 because one is needed. maybe it won't be in coatesville, though. Long term plans call for a hotel near rts 30 and 10 I understand.
Other than that Coatesville is going to have to scratch for everything it gets.
so, from what I can gather, besides all of your filler is that they have said some prayers... Coatesville needs some, I'll give ya that.
You all wanted change and you got it.
