Hi, Neighbor

Chester County District Attorney Joseph Carroll -- pictured to the right, wearing the baseball hat, outside the city home where two people were killed last weekend -- has purchased a home in Coatesville.

From Friday's story:
(The property) is in Coatesville's Fifth Ward, which is represented by Democratic City Councilman Martin Eggleston.

Eggleston said he had not spoken with Carroll before or after the district attorney bought the property, but he enthusiastically welcomes him to the neighborhood.

"The more the merrier," Eggleston said. "I love when anyone decides to move into Coatesville. I think that's great."

Though he said Carroll's experience as a crime fighter would help the surrounding blocks, Eggleston bristled at the suggestion that North Eighth Avenue was a bad part of town.

"I wouldn't characterize it at all. I think that's part of the problem, when we characterize this as a good street and that as a bad street," the councilman said. "I just hope the neighborhood welcomes him."
So far, Carroll declined to be interviewed about his plans in the city.

Let's see if that makes a difference in the City. It's an interesting move for the County DA to move to the City. I have to admit if I was the DA I wouldn't move to that area of Coatesville. Good for him though, it shows he isn't all talk and no action. He has a stake in the City as a resident now. The thugs aren't going to like it though, the spotlight is going to be shining pretty bright on Coatesville and Matthews and the gang are going to be under the gun (pun intended) to clean up the City and keep him safe.

Since I live in his neighborhood, I'm really glad he will be there. Maybe he won't put up with the crap that goes on and the dirt bikes racing around the neighborhood. I hope it's not just a temporary thing and he's here to stay.

I'd like to comment on the double murder last weekend in coatesville (apparently the daily local doesn't believe it warrants a blog spot).

I don't want to be callous and I feel for the family of the women who was shot, but (of yes there is a but) I am baffled by the fact no one is questioning he associations with a known drug dealer.

The problem with Coatesville and other communities is that no one is willing to call the situation for what it was. Everyone wants to give praise to this women and call her a role model because she "inspired and went to college." I have to be honest, I would never hold her up as a role model to my kids.

Simply because she seemed nice and went to college does not make her a role model. Hanging out till 2:30 am and dating a drug dealer show poor judgement. What kind of message does it send other young people when you hang out at all hours with a person who sells drugs and injures others by their lifestyle. It shows you support drug sales and use.

Responsible role models don't hang out with drig dealers until 2:30am. She was not a role model. To paint as a innocent person does nothing but perpetuate the same behavious and ignore reality.

Thank you very much for your comments. I'm sure there are many, many people who feel the same way. Every statement you made was totally correct.

Isn't sort of jumping the gun assuming that DA Caroll is actually moving to the city. Maybe he just purchased a rental property and has absolutely no intention of ever living in Coatesville. It's kind of pathetic when the two biggest stories in Coatesville are a double homicide and the district attorney's purchase of a property.

to 11:53 pm,

EXACTLY, Mr. Caroll only joined the ranks of being a Coatesville landlord, why in the world would a man of his caliper but a 100 year old shack on 8th ave to live in and put his family in jeporady from the people he busts? Don't be silly, I really don't think you will be seeing him move in there. If anything it will be a staging area for police activity.

And yes, to 5:37 am, No one deserves to be shot in the head at 21yo. but that young girl was not a role model, she should not have been dating a drug dealer, why didn't she hook up with a nice young fellow that was going to college to become something? Very poor judgement on her part. I heard she was with that guy because he was the one paying her way for college with drug sale money. too bad.

He only paid $35,000 for that house so it must need a LOT of work before he can move in! I still say he is going to be a landlord. If I was his family I would be scared to death to move there.

That house is on north 8th ave, right near where the motorcycle gang hangs out along side of Cheung's. I can't imagine a man of his class living there. Anybody want to place a bet that he is not going to live there full time??
