Phillies update

I just got off the telephone with CW 15 about why they didn't air the game last week.

Spokesperson told me they had it on their digital package, channel 249, which is tough luck for those with basic cable.

They said there are conflicts with their CW network and those shows, which I believe are in re-runs, have to air first. It's a lame excuse if you ask me.

I also called Comcast about it, but after having to press nine or 10 different buttons and not being able to speak to a person in Pennsylvania, I gave up.

Little known fact

With Columbia dropping down to Class A in football this season, there's a possibility they could be playing the Steel-High Rollers in the playoffs.

They have the top player in the state in running back Jeremiah Young, who has rushed for more than 6,000 yards during his career. The state record is more than 8,200 yards.

Why am I posting this? Since the playoffs of Young's freshman year, Columbia is one of six teams to hold Young under 100 yards on the ground.

The others were Holy Name and Southern Columbia (freshman year); Bellwood Antis, Boiling Springs and St. Pius X (sophomore year) and Trinity (junior year).

Two days

Are you ready for some football?

It's just two days to the season opener for the Crimson Tide.

They face cross river rival Eastern at 7 p.m. Friday night, on the hill.

Here's hoping there's a big crowd for the game.

Don't forget the Football Booster Club is holding a Chicken Barbecue from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.

We'll have a preview of the season in tomorrow's edition. Next week, look for game stories and a preview of the Tide's second game of the season with York Suburban.

Also, don't forget to check out other media outlets who are planning previews. WGAL runs its Football Friday Special tonight at 7 p.m.
Lancaster plans on offering its football preview section tomorrow in the New Era and Friday in the Intell. Their new website covering the L-L League goes on line Friday.

Thanks Comcast

Did you know that the Philadelphia Phillies are back in first place in the National League East, following a dramatic 8-7, 13-inning win over the New York Mets?

Well, if you are a Comcast cable subscriber, who gets Comcast Lancaster, you never saw the game. Seems the CW affiliate, WLYH, which is shown on Comcast Lancaster, saw fit nw to show the game. It's not the first time that a game has been on the CW that the local affiliate has not shown the game.

If you had digital cable, it was on Channel 249, but from what I wsa told the quality was real poor.

Who is to blame? I say both Comcast, because if you had Comcast E-town, you actually got the game because they carry CW 57 from Philadelphia; WLYH, for promoting they are the Phillies station, which they are really not, because they don't carrying all the CW games; the Phillies also get a little bit of the blame here as well, for not checking too closely on their television or radio stations.

And speaking of radio, let's not start on that debacle as well.
