Budget

The city will have to do more than lay off employees to fill its $1.2 million budget gap, which administrators hoped to cover with real estate sales. See today's edition of the Daily Local News.

Tricky Ricky Dean has been conspicuously absent from the last TWO council meetings. And he doesn't provide financial documentation to council when asked repeatedly?

Is he still in the country???

I bought into balancing the budget through real estate sales, sounded as if it WOULD work, the way the administration presented it.

Now 6 months later.......

Why haven't properties been auctioned prior to this?

As the plan was presented, money was to flow into the city via some sales by this date

Why haven't the properties at least been listed so if there is interest, someone could have made an offer?

Where is Ricky Dean? Is there a Health Issue? Isn't attendance mandatory for all department heads at Council meetings?

Have the properties been privately offered to a "SELECT FEW"?

Sure makes you wonder. Ed Simpson still wonders where all the money has went. What is wrong here doesn't council have to show these records to ALL COUNCIL MEMBERS. What are they hiding? Someone needs to start investigating Mr.Dean. They cannot prove to certain council members that the city is broke. How can they get away with this?

Why does R. Dean drive a Porsche?

R Dean drives a Porsche because the taxpayers in Coatesville are paying him 80k a year to do a job for which he is not qualified. WAKE UP CITIZENS AND DEMAND CHANGES STARTING WITH THE FIRING OF HARRY WALKER!

To 2:10pm and 2:48pm.

Yes your comments are exactly what I have been saying since February. They have taken way too long to advertise these properties. Apparently there is someone waiting in the wings to buy them when the "distress emergency stage hits" at a super cheap/bail out price. Probably Mr. Dean has run out of answers for Mr. Simpson's questions, that's why he has not been in attendance at the meetings. I hope those check registers do come to light one day.

He seriously drives a Porche? How perfectly obscene!!!! Dean should drive his Porsche out of town and take the idiots who gave him the job with him.

Not that I'm defending Ricky Dean here, but you don't have to be wealthy to own a Porsche. You can pickup a used Boxter for less that the price of many new Fords, Dodges, Chryslers today. Many older 944's are super cheap.

Now if he drives a 2007 911 Turbo, that's another story.

I hope the new community health center is planning a wing for treatment of Alheizmers, because from what I gather from all of the comments posted here, they will be a drastic need for treatment space soon.

Krack, Simpson, Eggleston and Smith
tanked the planned reopening of the 2006 budget when the new council took over in Jan 2006.

Thier solution to the crisis - defer and delay any substantial corrective action by stealing from the trust to balance the 2005 budget and raping the taxpayers and stealing from the trust to present a balanced 2006 budget, full well knowing that the city could not afford the expenses they budgeted. You must remember they were all deeply involved in the process that led to increased taxes and fees, along with the council members voted out. Dean and Walker were not even here yet, and the block of 4 were spectators in the show, disaggreeing with the way the budget was developed. What a better way to exact revenge against your political rivals than to leave them with a problem that can only be solved by making tough, potentially political career ending decisions to fix the problems once and for all - Layoffs\downsizing\cutting services.

If only they had the guts to deal with this 2 years ago .....the possibilities are endless...

In the end Krack, Simpson and Co. stalled, and delayed the process of reopening the budget until the legal time frame to do so expired.

ok there 12:02 PM, pull you head out of your _____. Whats the point of having 40 million or 28 million in the bank when you are not providing the bare minimum services to the resdients that own the money?????

The point is that the fund was providing 2 million dollars a year in interest which went directly to the general fund to offset taxes. Let me make this as easy as possible. NO FUND, NO INTEREST INCOME...THEREFORE A HUGE TAX INCREASE! Sound familiar?? I would go on but it is probably way over your head.

I find it funny that as a much as Kurt Shenck hates the DLN, that him or his son won and IPOD shuffle today on the online give away. I have been trying to win for awhile. Just doesn't seem right. But then again , what does in Coatesville these days.

What are you going to do when the leeches that are sucking the life out of city drain the trust to nothing, and then leave because there is no money to pay salaries ?

Who will be left to protect you and the city then ?

Spending savings to pay day to day operations is a kill shot to any entity, government included. The key to prevent that is leaders using the word NO when the leeches ask for more, and making difficult decisions such as reduction in staffing and services, rather than passing the blame on to others.
