Looking Back

Before Harvey Legree turned over a new leaf, he made strong accusations against the Coatesville Police Department. These are his final words in his "stop snitching" movie, which he made in 2005 after getting out of jail:

"Coatesville police wanted me so bad they put drugs in my pockets. Once I witnessed Coatesville police lie on the witness stand. That's when I knew Coatesville Police was corrupt and that's when I knew the drug game was over for me. As the police watch us, someone needs to police the police."

Recently City Council gave the OK for Legree to film scenes of his newest movie in Coatesville. The filming will require city streets to be shut down for short periods of time -- with the approval of the police chief. Legree describes himself as an ex-drug dealer who is trying to make a positive movie.

After the vote, the majority of City Council members said they were unaware that Legree made a stop snitching movie. But some said it didn't matter because Legree deserves a second chance.

I always love quotes from people like Legree:

"Coatesville police wanted me so bad they put drugs in my pockets. Once I witnessed Coatesville police lie on the witness stand. That's when I knew Coatesville Police was corrupt and that's when I knew the drug game was over for me. As the police watch us, someone needs to police the police."

Is Legree actually saying that the he would still be in the drug business if the police didn't arrest him (and yes, I doubt his protestation of innocence since "fat boy" just got arrested.

Isn't it the job of the police to stop people from dealing drugs? So does that mean the council hired Matthews to watch the police so the drug dealers can deal in peace?

I'm certainly dissapointed in what this blog has become. I used to believe that this was a great place for the DLN and people in general to comment on the happenings in Coatesville, but I have found that this Blog has become a place to point out all the negative things that happen in Coatesville (trust me, I know there might be more negatives than positives), but not one mention on this website about the Brandywine Health Center.

Why is everyone jumping all over Legree's movie. Can't a man get a second chance? Could it be possible that the system did work and that he is reformed?

Chief Matthews hasn't been on the job for 3 months, yet everyone is criticizing his plans. Does anyone know with certainty that it will fail?? I'm concerned of the process that brought him here, but let's give him a chance and help him succeed.

I, like many, am extremely concerned with the way things are going in the City and disagree in many instances with the majority in City Council. Even though I've only been in Coatesville for 4 years, I want to see it fluorish as much as life-long residents. I want to be able to raise my kids in a safe environment. Let's use our energy to help make Coatesville a better place to live and lets stop wasting time complaining and arguing.

3:15 -

It's so much EASIER to sit back, and do nothing, and then complain and moan about the choices the administration has to fill all of the VOLUNTEER positions required for the city to function properly.

In order to cause some type of positive result,a good deal of effort and sacrafice of personal and family time must be committed.
Evidently the posters here are unwilling to do so.

Recalls bla bla bla - did not happen. Show up at council to "voice concerns" - did not happen. Take the time to vote to give council a chance for a new look next year - did not happen.

So just sit back, do nothing, and critize everyone else who is trying here on the blog. It is easier than making a committment to get involved and try to make a difference.

People who live in glass houses, should not throw stones ....
