Upcoming boxing card

READING -. King’s Promotions returns to the Allentown area on Saturday February 27th where they will host an exciting professional and amateur boxing card pitting Reading fighters against their nearby Allentown counterparts. The event will consist of five professional fights featuring local fan favorites, as well as five amateur fights featuring the Allentown Boxing Club vs Reading’s King’s Gym. It will take place at the Rodeway Inn & Conference Center at Routes 22 & 39 in Allentown.
The professional fights will feature Jason Cintron vs Doel Carrasquillo in the main event. Cintron, the brother of former IBF welterweight champ Kermit Cintron, is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Martinus Clay at Reading’s Sovereign Center in December. The co-feature will pit Reading’s Keenan Collins against Allentown’s Jorge Delgado. Eliud Torres of Allentown will face Hawaiian native Van Oscar Penovaroff, who currently resides in Reading. Also featured will be regional crowd favorites Travis Kauffman and Julio Cesar Matthews. Kauffman is looking to rebound from a controversial loss against Tony Grano broadcast on Shobox: The Next Generation . Kauffman was recently featured as one of boxing’s “new faces” in the December issue of Ring magazine. Matthews, a former resident of Allentown who currently resides in Reading, is riding a nine fight winning streak. Bragging rights will be at stake in the amateur portion of the night when fighters from the Allentown Boxing Club challenge their counterparts from Reading’s King’s Gym.
Tickets are priced at $25.00, 50.00 and 65.00 and are available beginning Jan.1st at the Rodeway Inn (610-395-3731), Kingsboxing.com and the Allentown Boxing Club (Luis Melendez: 484-860-5162). Doors open at 6:00 pm; first bout starts at 6:30.

Boy Scouts for PACS


Local Boy Scout troop 85 and Cub Scout pack 85 collected over a thousand cans and boxes of food and baby formula for Phoenixville Area Community Services. John Lukowski, the scoutmaster said this is one of the many community service projects the scouts perform in the community. The boys enjoyed sorting the many cans and boxes on the porch of PACS. Santa Story Time with the Royersford Library

On Saturday, December 12, at 11:00 AM, Santa Claus will be on hand for his usual story time with the Royersford Free Public Library; only this year it will take place at the Friendship Fire Company, 269 Green Street, Royersford. There will be plenty of room and. . .a parking lot! Makin’Music’s Mr. Daniel will start us out with a Christmas sing-a-long. After that Santa will read a few stories and begin to take the children’s requests. He will stay until every child has a chance to speak with him.
In addition to Santa there will be a bake sale, cookies and milk, crafts, and activities for children to enjoy while waiting their turn. Donate an item to the bake sale and be one of the first families to visit with Santa.
There will also be a holiday toy raffle. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Tickets are available at the library now, and the toys are on display at the library.
The library is located at 200 South Fourth Avenue. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 AM to 8 PM and Friday and Saturday, 10 AM to 2 PM. Closed Sundays. Looking for LEGOS

With hopes to start a Lego Club for age’s kindergarten through fourth grade, Royersford Free Public Library is looking for donations of new or used Lego building blocks. The club is scheduled to begin on Monday afternoon, January 4, 2010. It will run for the first four weeks of January, from 4:15 to 5:15 in the afternoon. Participants may sign-up beginning December 1, 2009. There will be space for 20 children on each day.
Considering its likely success, the Lego Club will repeat its sessions on the first four Tuesdays in February, the first four Wednesdays in March, the first four Thursdays in April, and back to the first four Mondays in May.
Donations can be dropped off at the Royersford Free Public Library during regular business hours. Royersford Free Public Library is a branch of the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library. It is located at 200 South Fourth Avenue, Royersford. For more information call (610) 948-7277.

Give to the SPCA this holiday

The Borough of Royersford will be a drop off point for the Montgomery County SPCA food drive. The SPCA can use canned and dry pet food for dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pig. The SPCA could also use small litter boxes and towels.

Please help the SPCA by dropping off items at the Royersford Borough Hall between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. For additional information please call 610.948.3737.
