Pottstown's Got The Trashcan Blues

You may or may not have noticed our esteemed editor talked some major trash earlier this week.

I never thought I'd see the day when the trash takes US out. If you live or have driven through Pottstown these past few weeks, you've no doubt noticed these monstrous, fierce looking blue beasts--errrr, municipal trashcans that make recycling sooooo easy, all you gotta do is toss it all into one can without any of that pesky sorting and separating. Captain Planet would be proud. Of course, as you can see in our editorial cartoonist's color toon in the paper earlier this week, it's not that easy. The cans have taken over! And we all have the most heinous blues this town has ever, ever seen (nevermind the current economic meltdown, we're being eaten alive by mouth-watering trashcans!).

So here at the Scene & Heard laboratory, we're willing to help the only way we know how. We know it isn't much. But here's some music to help you cope with these awful, nasty blues.

Closer look at the YouTube Awards 2008

Since it's YouTube Monday here at The (back on schedule) Scene & Heard HQ, it'd be crazy dumb silly to ignore the fact that Chocolate Rain won a YouTube award last week. It'd also be self-defamation of blog character (not to mention, lame) to post a video we've all already seen. So instead, let's sit back and relax to the many wonderfully whack offshoots inspired by Mr. Zonday's froggy baritone. (But what I really want to know is, are The YouTubies becoming more popular than The Academy Awards?)

Chocolate Rain by Tre Cool (of Green Day)

Chocolate Rain (Best Week Ever remix) - by John Mayer

Chocolate Rain - by worst American Idol auditioner ever

Chocolate Rain - by Chad Vader

Cherry Chocolate Rain - By Tay Zonday

The New Thriller

I've seen Fall Out Boy live, a few times. And their shows have been as explosive and energetic as fireworks in a tin can. I didn't even care that they sacrificed the sound of their songs for their charismatic energy, because quite frankly they SOUNDED awful. But then I stopped being a teenager.

So, I had no interest in their upcoming Live CD/DVD, aptly titled "****."

But then, I stumbled across the awesomest cover song I've heard in a long, long time, which just so happens to be on the tracklist for said release which is slated for April 8. This song itself is not recorded live, but it's enough reason to make me want to buy whatever it comes packaged with.

If you didn't already jump the gun and click the link, it's Fall Out Boy covering "Beat It" better than Jacko could ever have originally hoped for. And finally, FINALLY, John Mayer actually SHOWS OFF why people keep saying he is THE guitar god of our generation. He joins the FOB here to lend his finest axe wielding chops and takes it to a whole other deck in the ball park. And the cameo is rather fitting, since Eddie Van Halen was the puppeteer pulling the 6 strings on the original with Jacko. So we can count on Fall Out Boy getting nose changes and lending songs to any future Free Willy soundtracks, and John Mayer continuuing to rule.

And for being the chubbiest AND dorkiest rocker alive today, FOB singer Pat Stump croons a mean soulful vocal hook for a white boy with a guitar. I guess it really DOESN'T matter if you're black or white. Which is funny, because we have no idea what Michael is anymore, do we?

Sending Out An SOS

Don't forget to pick up The Mercury tomorrow for a chance to win some Police tickets! (more details here)

If you need more convincing, here's a video from this past summer's LiveEarth when The Police took to the stage with some pals to perform "Message In A Bottle." And by pals, I mean John Mayer on guitar and Kanye West jumping in to awkwardly add some freestyle to the classic anthem. Kanye seemed a bit out of place, but otherwise, pretty slick stuff. Enjoy!
