Make Coatesville beautiful

Comcast and the city's parks and recreation department are teaming up clean up Ash Park.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, beginning at 8:30 a.m, and it will involve painting buildings and benches, planting shrubbery, and removing trash from the park's grounds.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Anthony Colantonio, Comcast's government and community affairs specialist, at 610-842-4126 or Anthony_colantonio@cable.comcast.com.

Hopefully this will turn out good! Philly had a clean up day recently and drew 15,000 people. If Coatesville could attract 150 people it would be great and make a difference. And I don't want to hear that it's a waste of time because as soon as you clean up someone throws more trash. If you didn't clean up then there would be the old trash and the new trash still there. At least you cleaned up the old trash.

Nothing was worse than what happened to me last summer. I was bending down to pick up some trash on my street and a car came by real fast with some kids in it and one of them threw out a half full glass bottle and it broke right in front of me and I got soaked plus some glass flew up and hit me in the face, luckily it didn't get into my eyes. I could hear them laughing as they rushed away. I was so pissed off that I didn't have the time to get their license number but I did report it to the police. That didn't stop me, I still pick up trash but am more cautious now.

So hopefully May 3rd will be a nice day and I will be out doing my thing on several streets if possible.

just think if every resident in coatesville would just cleanup areound their houses. Like teaching children. If you take 10 minutes a week or 2 minutes each day you start to change the mentality of the city.

you better check with Patsy Ray first! Didn't a group of girl scouts plant flowers around the police department last year and then get a tongue lashing from the Rev? As city council president you would have thought that she would have recognized those efforts. Only in the Ville!

She has changed her tune since that happened. Ms. Ray is the main one to complain at the council meetings about the trash around the city. Hopefully she will help on the 3rd too!

Good luck making Coatesville beautiful. While you can pick up the litter, you can't pick up the REAL trash, the gangs, the bums, the hookers, and that is what makes Coatesville a black eye on this otherwise very nice county.

Nice attitude 7:30AM. All complaining and no action. THAT is what makes Coatesville such a harsh place to live.

To 7:30 AM:

I didn't say we could cure all of Coatesville's problems in one day by picking up trash, but someone has to start somewhere. Hopefully the cops can pickup some of the the 2-legged trash. Try to think and act positive!

I'll be interested to see who turns up to help clean up the park. I'm doubting that the people who should be there helping with be there.
Hey is there another day I heard about when people are coming out to clean around the city or is this day the park and the city?

This is the comcast sponsored clean up day. You can pick up a flyer at City Hall. Of course anyone is welcome to clean up any day the want to also.

Is this being advertised anyone in the city. This is the only time I've even heard of this happening on May 3rd. The city should have one of their banners out advertising or some other way to let people know.

As usual they are never organized and don't advertise these things. I found out about it at last week's city council meeting. It might also be on channel 66 (the local channel)

I work with ING . We cleaned up the City Hall property a few weeks ago. I heard that a huge group 250 were going to work on Ash Park. I would think that we should put every effort possible to making this place look nicer. This would included planting and greening areas that are now ugly.

Yes, I agree but some kind folks will need to continue to go around and maintain the spots that were cleaned up or they will not last. My grandmother used to tell me, it costs money to have fancy clothes, it costs money to have a fancy car or big house BUT it doesn't cost very much to be clean and keep your surroundings clean! I just wish more folks could have this mentality
